Indoor Soccer Overview

Indoor Soccer Overview

Eligibility
The Winter Indoor Soccer program is open to Pinelanders members who played, coached or otherwise participated with us in the preceding Spring or Fall outdoor season, and their immediate families.

The Board may occasionally open Indoor registration to “guest players” (players who did not play in the preceding outdoor seasons), in divisions that have low registration. Guest players will be charged an additional registration fee.

Location and Schedule
Our Indoor Soccer program begins early in January and runs for about 8-10 weeks.

The Winter Indoor season usually begins on the first or second Friday in January, and runs through the end of February or Early March. Indoor soccer is played in the Howell Middle School North gym on Friday evenings. Game schedule will be available via the Demosphere App.

The Youth Indoor Program
The Indoor program is very informal – we do assign players to teams, but teams don’t hold practices. Games are played in the gym, and usually last for about 25 minutes with a continuous running clock.

A schedule will be published a few days before the start of the season.  Games usually start at around 6 pm (depending on permits) and end by 9 pm, with the younger age-groups playing in the earlier time slots.

All divisions are co-ed.

The program is open to players who will be aged 6-18 on the following April 1 (or played at least one season in a U7 division) and:

  • Played with us in the preceding Spring or Fall season
  • Or, when enrollment permits, are a Guest Player

Online registration is required. Invitation is sent to eligible members via email.

Divisions are all co-ed. The following spring season cutoff date (April 1) will apply for indoor, though at its discretion the board may shift the birthday cutoff to allow for maximum enrollment.

What to Wear
All players must wear suitable athletic clothing. Players who are not properly attired will not be allowed to play. Players must wear:

  • White shirt (colored pinnies will be provided to distinguish teams).
  • Athletic shorts or sweatpants (NOT street clothing such as jeans, dungarees or shorts with any metal attachments).
  • Shin guards.
  • Sneakers or indoor shoes. Flat soles only - No indoor turf cleats.
  • If the ground outside is wet, players should change into different footwear to play. Wet soles are very dangerous on the gym floor.

School Closing & Makeup Games
If the host school is closed for any reason or schedules a school event on Friday night, indoor soccer is automatically canceled. There are no makeup games.

Coaching Indoor
We always need parents to help with coaching Indoor teams. Coaching an Indoor team doesn’t require any extra time commitment if you’re going to be at your child’s games anyway – there are no separate practices, and there’s no need to make any phone calls. All you need to do is to gather your team at the start of the game and move players in and out of the game to make sure they all get a chance to play.

If you’re not familiar with the game there’s very little to learn indoor - and we have program coordinators on site to help you get up to speed.

If you’d like to help as a coach, please register as a volunteer when you register your player. Coaches will need to complete the Safety Requirements

Pinelanders Indoor Rules

Pinelanders Indoor Rules

Apparel/Shoes/Uniforms: All players are required to wear sneakers or other indoor shoes, shin-guards, and long socks completely covering shin guards. Any player not equipped properly CANNOT play. Players should wear white shirts; pinnies will be provided to distinguish teams. If it's wet or icy outside, please bring your game shoes to change into. Wet floor is dangerous.

Dangerous Articles. For reasons of safety, no jewelry, hair barrettes, beads or hard casts or splints (even if padded) may be worn during a game, and players may not chew gum while on the floor. The referee is to remove any player wearing dangerous articles from the game until the items in question are removed and a substitute may be added

Additional Rules for Winter Indoor Soccer
Offside. The offside rule is not applied in the Indoor program.

Substitutions. Unless explicitly denied by the referee, substitutions may be made at any time, including during the play of the game. Referee permission and stoppage of play are not required for substitutions. Referees will not stop play for any substitutions.

Kickoffs and Restarts. All kickoffs and free kicks are indirect.

Out of Play. If the ball goes out of play, play is restarted with a kick-in not thrown in at the direction of the referee. The goalkeeper may receive a kick-in directly.

Goalkeeper Clearance. Clearances by the goalkeeper must touch the floor on the attacking team’s side of the halfway line. An indirect kick will be awarded to the defending team for clearances that cross the halfway line without first touching the floor.

Inanimate Objects. The inbound walls and any objects behind each goal and to the non-spectator side are in play and may be used by an attacking or defending player. If a ball becomes trapped behind the goal, play is restarted as a goal kick. If the ball is trapped by an inanimate object play is restarted at the direction of the referee. Balls played into the 2 inbound corners near the bleachers will be restarted by the team directed by the ref.

Half time: The game will be paused at the halfway point for a quick drink and side changes. The clock will NOT be stopped for the halftime break ... So make it quick.
